Theoretical Written Examination

The written test is 50% of your grade. You’ll answer:

Written Examination:

Topics include:

  • Different types of racquet frames
  • String patterns
  • Grip types and how to put them on

  • How tension changes the way a racquet plays
  • New racquet technology

Customer Service Test:
You’ll also do a 5-minute pretend customer service talk. This shows:

  • How you handle customer questions and concerns

Candidates must complete both the written test and customer service interview to fulfill the theoretical knowledge component of the certification.

Hands-On Stringing Skills (CTS)

The other 50% your grade comes from stringing racquets to complete Certified Tennis Stringer Certification. You’ll need to: String four tennis rackets:

  • Two rackets using the 2-knot method Around the World (ATW)
  • Two rackets using the 4-knot method

For each racquet, you must:

  • Finish stringing in 60 minutes
  • Put on new bumper/grommets and string the racquet while the tester watches
  • Take off old strings carefully
  • Put the racquet in the machine correctly
  • Put strings through holes without damaging anything
  • Tie knots tightly and correctly
  • Make sure the last string isn’t too loose
  • Keep strings from crossing over each other
  • Make all strings straight and tidy
  • Put a new grip on a racquet

All four racquets should have the same tension:

  • No more than 2 units difference when tested
  • All strung at the same starting tension

Ensure consistent tension across all rackets:

  • Maximum 2 DT difference when tested with a device
  • All rackets strung at the same tension
