Requirements for Certified Badminton Stringer (CBS) Certification

To be eligible for this certification, stringers must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years badminton playing experiences
  • Must have understanding in proper badminton foundation
  • Passed BSW Certified String Advisor – Badminton (CSA-B)
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional stringing experience serving the public
  • Have a gentle standard digital stringing machine with 6-point mounting, clamp and magnet lock, and overall good consistent tension head accuracy.
  • Age 18 and above

Only candidates meeting these criteria will be allowed to undertake the Certified Badminton Stringer certification process.

Theoretical Written Examination

Theoretical Knowledge consist of 50% of certification. The candidate will be required to:

Written Examination:
50 multiple-choice questions on badminton stringing basics.
Topics include:

  • Badminton stringing techniques
  • Basic tension understanding
  • Racquet frame types and structures
  • Stringing patterns
  • Grip types and application
  • String gauge and properties
  • Stringer principles
  • String types and their effects
  • Tension effects on play
  • Racquet technology

Customer Service Simulation:

  • 5-minute interview demonstrating customer service skills
  • Assessing ability to communicate stringing concepts to customers
  • Evaluating approach to customer inquiries and concerns

Candidates must complete both the written test and customer service interview to fulfill the theoretical knowledge component of the certification.

Practical Stringing Skills Exam (CBS)

Practical Stringing Skills consist of 50% of this Certified Badminton Stringer certification. The candidate will be required to:

String four standard badminton rackets (22 main, 22 cross):

  • Two rackets using the 2-knot method
  • Two rackets using the 4-knot method

For each racket:

  • Complete stringing within 60 minutes
  • Inspect the frame and grommets for damage
  • Cut and remove old strings correctly
  • Mount the racket properly
  • Pass strings through grommets gently without causing damage
  • Tie correct, tight knots
  • Ensure the last string is not too loose after knotting
  • Avoid overlapped or crossed-over strings
  • Maintain straight and tidy main and cross strings

Ensure consistent tension across all rackets:

  • Maximum 2 DT difference when tested with a device
  • All rackets strung at the same tension

Certification assessor

The certification assessor will evaluate these skills following below to ensure the candidate meets the required standards for certification of Certified Badminton Stringer (CBS) .

  • Correct stringing technique for both 2-knot and 4-knot methods
  • No crossovers in the string bed
  • Maintained frame shape
  • No string or grommet damage
  • Straight, evenly tensioned strings
  • Consistent string bed stiffness across all four rackets
  • Proper time management (60 minutes per racket)
  • Accurate responses to theoretical questions
  • Appropriate customer service approach

Stringers who successfully pass both components of the exam will receive a BSW Certified Badminton Stringer certificate. This official document, issued by Best Stringer Worldwide (BSW), recognizes the stringer’s demonstrated skills and knowledge. The original Certified Badminton Stringer certificate will be sent to successful candidates in any country, validating their achievement in badminton racquet stringing.
