Requirements for Professional Badminton Stringer (PBS) Certification

  • Passed BSW Certified Badminton Stringer (CBS) certification or equivalent qualification
  • Passed BSW Certified String Advisor – Badminton (CSA-B)
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional stringing experience serving the public
  • Have a good standard digital stringing machine with high accuracy
  • Demonstrated proficiency in advanced understanding stringing techniques
  • Proven track record of providing high-quality stringing services to badminton players

Only candidates meeting these criteria will be allowed to undertake the Professional Badminton Stringer certification process.

Theoretical Examination (PBS)

Theoretical Knowledge consist of 50% of certification.

The test consists of 100 questions designed to assess a stringer’s advanced knowledge in various aspects of badminton stringing. Topics covered include:

Extended Customer Service Simulation:

  • 10-minute scenario-based interview
  • Handling complex stringing requests
  • Advising on string and tension for intermediate player

Practical Skills Assessment (PBS)

The practical component comprises 50% of the Professional Badminton Stringer certification. Candidates must demonstrate the following advanced stringing competencies. The candidate will be required to:

String four standard badminton rackets (22 main, 22 cross):

  • two using advanced 2-knot techniques
  • Two using complex 4-knot or hybrid methods

For each racket:

  • Complete stringing within 35 minutes
  • Use advanced frame preparation techniques
  • Perform precise stringing without damaging the racket
  • Achieve consistent tension (max 1 DT difference)
  • Apply advanced smooth stringing process

Assessment Criteria

The certification assessor will assess the following criteria:

  • Consistency in implementing stringing method
  • On-site player feedback evaluation for racquet feel
  • Careful handling of frame and strings during the process
  • Completion of each racket stringing within the 35 minute limit
  • Comprehensive understanding of stringing theory and principles

Upon successful completion, candidates are awarded the BSW Professional Badminton Stringer certificate. This certification, issued directly by the BSW headquarters and not locally printed, acknowledges the stringer’s advanced competencies in badminton racket preparation. Stringers who successfully pass both components of the exam will receive a BSW Certified Badminton Stringer certificate.
