Requirements for Professional Tennis Stringer (PTS) Certification
To take the Professional Tennis Stringer test, you need:
- Passed the BSW Certified Tennis Stringer (CTS) test or an equivalent qualification
- Passed the BSW Certified String Advisor – Tennis (CSA-T) test
- Have at least 5 years of experience stringing racquets for customers
- Own or have access to a high-quality digital stringing machine
- Demonstrate proficiency in smooth stringing techniques
- Provide proof of consistent, high-quality stringing services for tennis players
If you meet all these requirements, you can take the Professional Tennis Stringer test.
Theoretical Examination (PTS)
The written test is 50% of your grade.
The written test is half of your grade. You’ll answer 100 questions about professional tennis stringing. Topics include:
- Proper stringing patterns and how they affect play
- String types from major brands like Wilson, Babolat, Yonex, and Head
- Recommending strings and tension for intermediate players
- Customizing strings and tension for specific player needs
- Analyzing a player’s style and customizing their racquet
- Solving stringing problems for customers
- How different racquet frames affect string choice and tension
- Helping intermediate to competitive players
- Professional stringer duties and responsibilities
This test checks if you really understand advanced tennis stringing and how to help players at different skill levels.
Customer Service Test:
You’ll also do a 10-minute pretend customer service talk. This shows:
- How you handle difficult stringing requests
- How you advise intermediate players on strings and tension
Hands-On Stringing Test (PTS)
The other 50%of your grade comes from stringing racquet to complete the Professional Tennis Stringer certification. Candidates must demonstrate the following professional stringing competencies. The candidate will be required to:
String four tennis rackets:
- Two using advanced 2-knot techniques
- Two using complex 4-knot or hybrid methods
For each racquet, you must:
- Finish stringing in 35 minutes
- Use advanced ways to prepare the frame
- String precisely without damaging the racquet
- Keep the dynamic tension the same (no more than 1DT difference when tested)
- Use advanced, smooth stringing methods
Assessment Criteria
The certification assessor will assess the following criteria:

- How carefully you handle the frame and strings
- If you finish each racquet within 35 minutes

If you pass both the written and hands-on tests, you’ll get a BSW Professional Tennis Stringer certificate. This official paper shows you’re an advanced tennis stringer. BSW will send this certificate to you from their main office. They give out these certificates to recognize skilled stringers and help improve tennis stringing around the world.
